Christmas Message

Appreciation

Several times I have faced death. Once at 15-years old, in a car crash, that ended up on the icy Mississippi River, in winter in Minnesota, in the United States. Once in Vietnam, once in Germany, with two plane crashes, when I was in my twenties, as a soldier; once when I was 45-years old, in the hospital, with a bypass, and a stroke (plus I had two heart attacks in-between). To mention a few; each time being brought to the edge of death, which has taught me to enjoy the simple things in life, such as a good night's sleep, or simply walking in the green grass, or looking into the shallow or deep waters, such as rivers or creeks, or walking around a lake. Looking at the mountains for whatever reasons, most are overwhelming to me. Listening to the sounds of the night, the crickets and so forth; looking at the pure white snow; kneeling in a nearby church, thanking the Lord for the day (another day); these of course are simple things, but once these simple things are taken away, you will grieve for them, and perhaps like me (if you haven't already) appreciate them more...

and so on this Christmas, all I want to do is thank God for the simple things in life... and thank you for listening!

Muchas veces me he enfrentado a la muerte. Una vez a los quince años de edad, en un accidente automovilístico que terminó en el helado Río Mississippi, en el invierno en Minnesota en Estados Unidos. Otra vez en Vietnam y otra en Alemania, con dos accidentes aéreos, cuando tenía alrededor de veinte años, cuando era un soldado. Otra vez cuando tenía cuarenta y cinco años de edad, en el hospital, con un bypass, y un derrame cerebral (más dos ataques al corazón en medio de todo esto). Sólo para mencionar algunos; cada vez siendo llevado al filo de la muerte, lo que me enseñó a disfrutar de las cosas simples de la vida: como una noche de buen dormir, o simplemente caminar en el pasto verde, o mirar dentro de la superficie o la profundidad del agua, tal como en ríos o riachuelos, o caminar alrededor de un lago. Mirar a las montañas por cualquier razón, muchas son abrumadoras, para mí. Escuchar a los sonidos de la noche; mirar a la blanca, a la pura nieve blanca, arrodillarme en una iglesia cercana, para agradecer al Señor por el día (por otro día más); estas por supuesto son cosas simple, pero una vez que estas cosas simples sean quitadas, tú sufrirás por ellos, y talvez como yo (si tú ya no lo has hecho) apreciarás estas mucho más...

y por eso en estas fiestas navideñas, todo lo que quiero hacer es agradecer a Dios por las cosas simples en la vida...y ¡gracias a ti por escuchar!
